@gruber Interesting anecdote: my dad was of drinking age before the drinking age got tied to federal highway funding, which made all states increase their drinking ages to 21. When that change happened, he said that cops and bartenders effectively grandfathered him and his friends in when checking their IDs, even though there was no actual legal grandfathering mechanism.
