@AndreasDavour @RogerBW It really does... I used to play a lot of historical games and we fell into a pattern of having to confront local thugs to get our foot in the local door, and then just hiring the local thugs as goons who could do the stuff that we didn't want to do. D&D teaches you to view hirelings as meatshields but if you treat them with a degree of realism they can become so much more and make your campaign immeasurably richer.
