how do you guys deal with smart tvs? i don't like them. i don't want to use their built in apps or let them connect to the internet... but....i need to have netflix, jellyfin, and hbo max working. what do you guys do? connect a mini SBC to the back of your TV? i'm moving to another apartment and need to buy a new tv soon, this is why i'm thinking about this.

  • @tootbrute@fedi.arkadi.one I will never connect a TV to the web. It can then be managed from outside through updates etc. I don't want my TVs behaviour to change or performance to degrade by bloatware. I'd just get some extra device for those apps. Right now I'm using an old fire TV stick but it is also very annoying with its auto-updates which can interrupt playback. And when it isn't doing that, it shows popup notifications about updates available which is just as intrusive. Most of the time it does what it is supposed to but I get furious in those moments when it behaves intrusive. So I will replace it at some point. I'm thinking about a Raspberry Pi down the road but I only use Jellyfin so I don't know about commercial streaming providers in your case. But maybe AndroidTV as OS on the Pi could handle Netflix and co? 🤔
