And no, Rian Johnson did not ruin Luke Skywalker. He was always a whiny guy over his head who ended up overcoming that and becoming a hero. That was exactly his arc in TLJ, and that fight scene between him and Kylo Ren is the most memorable moment of the whole sequel trilogy.

@jayreding@mastodon.world I’m in a similar position. I left the cinema in a state of shock, not really understanding what had just happened. Felt a tad bitter for a few days, then forgot about the whole thing until RoS was released. Then it all flipped in my head: I now find TFA and RoS extremely boring, uninspired and repetitive. TLJ on the other hand made me cry, shout, suffer and cheer, ie what only a great movie can do.

@jayreding@mastodon.world I'd go even further and say it's the best 😁 Unless I can include siege of Mandalore cause that's my favorite. But it is the 4 part finale of a cartoon.

@jayreding@mastodon.world I second that. All the "That's not Star Wars!" people scream about Last Jedi is the same we thought about Empire when it came out. Back then it wasn't that "best of them". We hated it and so did critics. But we were 12yo kids, not 30yo adults and in time i appreciated ESB properly as everyone does now. Theres a marvellos Twitter Thread that explains, how we felt while we watchet Empire the first time and boy, this is a Deja Vu compared to the reactions on TLJ: https://twitter.com/discolando/status/1117506171655479297
