In Michigan, Joanna Whaley is a trans woman running in the Democratic primary for Michigan legislature on a progressive platform. Her opponent in the primary, Frank Liberati, is running on a platform of transphobia. U.S. parties do not have any inherent policy positions: they take whatever positions are held by the winners of the primaries.
