Envelope budgeting: planning ahead for known expenses by regularly putting money into pre-determined categories, or envelopes. This week I show how I’m doing that in plain text accounting, specifically, Beancount.

@ellane@pkm.social this is similar to how I track various non-money things, like retirement account contributions (so I can see not only how much I've contributed, but how much I have left to contribute) that shouldn't affect account balances or net worth calculations
