22 miles round trip on my e-bike to ride the sunny Alex Pretti (and all killed by ICE this winter) bike ride, which joined with the union march around the ICE facility in Portland. I was just ahead of the first gassing, but it was an afternoon in which ICE firing from their building on a day time family march shattered more than glass (windows across the street) — it also shattered the illusion that there is a right way to protest. ICE gassed even the kiddos on a sunny Saturday afternoon

my memory of the day will be of bike bells, sun glints on the river, the bright colors of the labor tees and banners, the old man with a megaphone and union patches on his old jacket standing on the sidewalk as the marchers passed, referencing his binder of protest chants to keep the crowd afloat with shared voice. and then the big booms and the pouring gas, the fear and sorrow on peoples faces. the families hurrying away from fumes, the street medics running toward them
