@timClicks@mastodon.nz also, walking isn't dangerous, but cars make it so, even on sidewalks. Even crossing the street isn't dangerous, but cars make it dangerous. The world and its climate would last a thousand more centuries and more, but it won't if we keep destroying it to enable excessive use of cars. These things, will in the end, be our end at the rate things are going.

@timClicks@mastodon.nz a sedentary lifestyle is very dangerous. But it never gets mentioned

@timClicks@mastodon.nz As someone who's nearly offed himself more than once on two wheels, cycling is dangerous too. But it's way more dangerous with cars in the mix.

@timClicks@mastodon.nz Occasional reminder that America once had a robust trolley system that was systematically purchased, dismantled, and replaced by a much less efficient bus system by a series of shell companies owned and operated by General Motors, the same company which also bought and buried the patent to a commercially viable electric car in the early 1990s, as well as several other alternative-fuel vehicle designs, like hydrogen and water-powered vehicles.

@timClicks@mastodon.nz I partly agree, but I did once fall off my bike with no cars anywhere near! (handlebars suddenly went wobbly, due to my own inexperience at adjusting the bike - I was slightly injured, & lucky it happened on a bike path at a fairly low speed.)

@timClicks@mastodon.nz Speed is dangerous. A parked car could be left safely for plants to grow over it and it would do no harm. The faster a vehicle travels, the more harm it can do on impact. The heavier a moving object, the more harm it causes if it hits someone or something too. Logical to say cycling is safer because they don't go as fast and they're not as heavy. Slower and lighter cars on roads and fewer motorized vehicles would result in safer roads. OTOH 😢 https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/504884/minister-pulls-brakes-on-cycling-and-walking-initiatives
