Right, but what we didn't realize is that their long term plans were to be nice to users at first to rapidly scale up their business, lock them in, and later maximize profits by clawing back all the value for themselves and their shareholders. We didn't yet realize they were seeking infinite growth.

@freediverx @grishka Yeah, it's like that old meme: Step 1: Spend millions creating an amazing platform Step 2: Make it free Step 3: Invite the world in Step 4: ??? Step 5: PROFIT!!! But we learned much, much later that step 4 was endless enshittification and digital #slavery.
