@dode @megatronicthronbanks @timonsku yeah of course, and to have a reference potential e.g. for EM shielding, my point is: it's not a silver bullet that magically makes equipment that uses it safe and equipment that doesn't use it unsafe, there are specific engineering considerations that go into it (that generally boil down to "low resistance emergency discharge path" and "fixed reference potential to anchor otherwise floating stuff")

@cvtsi2sd @megatronicthronbanks @timonsku agreed on your basic point on safety. An earth can sometimes be "safety theatre" rather than providing real protection. In a time when compliance marking can mean very little it's hard to know what's really safe.
