@simontatham you could have used thunderbird, and defined retention rates per folder. So that, "keep the last 50" would happen automagically, and this would have given you peace of mind....

@uriel I don't think I *could* have used Thunderbird, in 2000! But yes, since then, "just let things fall off the back of the inbox if not answered yet" has become my basic strategy.
