@Numerfolt The most direct is that, by creating a firehose of content, Patreon can get users to visit more often— not just when a creator they pay posts something, but ambiently, in order to find or buy things. (They now provide “merch” marketplaces for creators, too, I just never use them).
Depending on what they want to boost, they can tweak that environment to maximize: sales and fees collected per user, engagement metrics for ad placement, or network-effect switching cost.
