@Schouten_B @jaffathecake I think what we have seen over the years in the standards world is that even if something isn't "standard", if enough developers use it, it will eventually become standardized.
Look at what is happening with WebSerial in Firefox today for example.
I'm guessing that Google knows this and is trying to induce demand for this by building it in. If they can fool enough developers to support the "standard", Google actually becomes the only standards compliant browser.
