@Tamtam I have to admit I myself am also not really part of these “old-style” social networks (IRC, mailing lists, etc). But I think being on Mastodon as part of the Fediverse is already an incredibly big step towards keeping the open non-corporate web alive.

@mvsde @Tamtam Used to chat on IRC, met people. Meet girlfriends, met wife. Have not been for decades, so not sure what it is like now. mIRC was the popular client program to use back then on Windows. Think it is still around. There are others depending on your computer / phone. Open client. Choose a nickname, choose a network, join a public channel. Chat. Can also have private chats. Used to choose network and channel focused on my country. Others were much busier. Channels covered everything from general chat, to very specific topics. You could have multiple channels open at the same time. Here is some help from one IRC network. https://libera.chat/guides/basics Irc clients https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_IRC_clients?wprov=rarw1 There is are also web based clients,. I tried kiwi chat, but nothing was connecting. But this worked for libera network. https://web.libera.chat/
