@CyclesSmiles not to hand. They are iron-on badges or patches, from Amazon or suchlike, with a few stitches in addition.
I like your minimalist stars.

@Photo55 the stars are very functional: they stitch all loose knit stitches together, so nothing is loose anymore and the unraveling stops. Patches will not do that, so I will not try those then. Perhaps in another scenario, will keep it in mind.
