@kevinmirsky I use both Hugo+Caddy with autodeploy via GitHub webhooks, and self hosted WordPress. Each has its unique challenges. Hosting Hugo+Caddy on Google Cloud on a e2-micro costs me between 0.03$ and 0.04$ per month because of the traffic originating from China. It is rock solid. I like it because I can host many sites on one VM and do some funky stuff. Using a front, e.g. netlify, like others suggested is a simpler solution. I host WordPress at home on a NUC w/ 1gbps ISP at 0$.
