@volcan01010 I find it really strange that you had to disable the firewall. Maybe you're NAT'ed twice? In which case you could have reduced your MTU.

@d1 I'm not sure why it helped, either. It was a clean OpenWrt install and I hadn't touched the firewall settings, so the tutorial should have worked. but once I turned it off the connection went from slow with timeouts to lightning fast.
