Enabling ai co author by default, https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/pull/310226. VSCode now adds Copilot as a co-author to every git commit one makes with VSCode. Or, How to artificially increase the apparent usage of Copilot to Microsoft stakeholders. This is ridiculous. How do they believe it’s gonna be received? Edit: it’s been reverted https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/pull/313931, thanks @alextecplayz for the link! #microsoft #vscode #copilot #git

@hywan thankfully a follow-up PR changes the default back to off: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/pull/313931 I think the original intention was to add Copilot as a co-author to every commit where Copilot was invoked to generate code, but somehow they fucked it up, and shipped it anyway. I don't know who the fuck just merges stuff like this, even the Copilot summary mentioned (in the original PR) that they didn't change the value in the fallback, which could cause issues. VSCode is a mess..

@hywan note to VS Code users: Sublime Text, which VS Code is largely ripped off from, is still going strong, and now they have a pretty decent git front-end app as well, called sublime merge

  • @hywan unfortunately, anyone still using VS Code quite likely doesn't care and will just carry on.

@kkarhan @hywan the latest version of VSCodium is 1.116.02821, and on Flatpak it's version 1.112 The copilot PR was added in 1.117.0, while the revert PR was added in 1.119.0, so hopefully whenever they release a new version it will be directly 1.119

@hywan@floss.social This tells you everything. They know its a shit show that aint gonna work. But they see the shareholders have collective 2 braincells and a lot of money. So, they milk em like cows dry. Even if the side effect is pissing off end users...
