NK Jemisin. The Broken Earth trilogy is absolutely brutal and heartbreaking. It's also one of the most beautiful stories I've read. It's hard to talk about without spoilers, so I won't. Just go read it!
If any fiction is required reading, I feel like these should be.

Tracy Deonn's Legendborn series is the kind of sharp, gripping YA that it's impossible not to get hooked on. Arthurian legends and secret societies but without all the racism swept under the carpet. @vicorva Agree. It's something you can't put down and it's so incredibly well done. Never predictable, always gritty, memorable.
