Some of the roads around my home now have presence-activated lights at night. They are dim by default, but get brighter when I approach. I hate this and try to avoid them at all costs. I don't feel safe having a beacon that can be seen from far away telling everyone that I'm passing through. This is the opposite of what would make me feel safe. I don't need light where I am. I want to see what's around me. If I need light at my feet, I can use a flashlight. That also gives away my position, but I'm in control of it and it isn't shining out above rooftop level. I'm conflicted on this because I also hate light pollution. I'd rather the lights stay dim all the time, but not everyone can use a flashlight as easily as I can (or can walk in darkness without tripping).
