@Aurin_the_classtraitor I'm gonna save this article so I know what not to do in any of my web/app design! I've considered recommendation algorithms before, and now that I know about "teasing", I think I could probably implement one without the toxicity of the algorithms we see on centralized social media. Instead of figuring out what people want and giving them something else, I could just give them what they want 🤷 I don't want people spending too much time on it, I want them making connections

  • @raphaelmorgan Exactly! I have vague memories of earli(er) internet where ppl would be recommended music that others, who listened to the same track, also liked. And early youtube actually recommended stuff similar to what I just watched. That didn't feel manipulative or upsetting. And yeah, the current obsession with driving up "engagement" over quality... it's literally making ppl waste time. And it's wanting to make them addicted. But most technologies that can be used in harmful ways can also be turned to good :')
