A. It's US Republican party propaganda that has worked extremely well in that country because of the twin fetishisations of individualism and purity.
Every bad US idea always gains at least some traction in the UK.

@celesteh@hachyderm.io To add to that: Even in the US, there are third parties, and you can vote for them, and if enough people who stay at home out of protest would just vote for a third party, it would send far more of a message. There is simply no excuse!
