@midendian during the days of pets dot com and kozmo dot com, it was vitamins dot com that made me realize what a house of cards it all was.
They had a coupon for $20 off any purchase of $20 or more. Someone in my residence hall figured out that a box of Clif bars was $20.42, so every single person ordered a box of Clif bars for $.42 ...
...just so the company could show investors how big sales were. We took right from investor's pockets to fill our poor student stomachs.

@grajohnt nice. I think that sort of thing is widely still possible but it’s so efficient now that your personalized discounts just steal from other customers.
