As much as I hated it for the steam deck - they really should have done a reserved pre-order. Because 20 minutes of idly clicking "continue" and getting:
There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance.
Isn't a great customer experience.

@tbortels No it is not. It took me a solid 10 minutes of clicking the button and the whole time I was worried I'd miss the initial batch. Looks like I made it, but I have no idea how many people are still getting frustrated by seeing that error over and over.
