You could always tell when someone had got the amphetamine. They didn't particularly feel it themselves—it wasn't meth or any of the amphetamines people use for fun, just pure amphetamine hydrochloride. It didn't *feel* interesting. But someone would be pacing around talking a mile a minute, going "Does anyone wanna go for a walk? Boy that pizza looks good—no I don't want any. I'm gonna go have a cigarette. Is it really bright in here?" (10/15)

    Tom and I happened to get the amphetamine the same day, which was very fortunate because neither of us slept a wink that night. I didn't really sleep for like 3 days. Which sounds great, in theory—I was an MIT student at the time—but I couldn't work. I couldn't do anything. I was exhausted. Just really, really … alert. I'd lie in bed, exhausted, listening to every sound being made in a 2-mile radius. I was, I think, "strung out." (11/15)
