A cleaning tip that I wish had been passed on to me much sooner: Turn stuff upside down.
Perception can be so lazy and so memory based that you'll flat out not notice how dirty something really is until you remove it from familiarity. Turn it upside down. Turn it inside out. Take it outside. Do SOMETHING to make it just a little alien, and you'll literally see it with fresh eyes.
I kinda hate how effective this dumb trick is.

I'm given to understand there's a similar trick in illustration - turn your reference upside down, and you'll draw it how it really looks, not just how you thought it did. I'm don't have personal familiarity with that one, so I might be misrepresenting it.
