Today I learned Studio Ghibli old-school threatened Harvey Weinstein by sending him a single katana and a note that said "No cuts."
Weinstein, was trying to shorten Princess Mononoke for American audiences and Toshio Suzuki was having none of that.
Wow.

@Thoreau@mas.to Apropos of nothing, the first release of My Neighbor Totoro in the US was done by 50th Street Films (a subdivision of Troma, of Toxic Avenger fame). The voice cast was, to my knowledge, no one Disney was trying to make famous and there’s an earnestness to it that I rather like. I definitely prefer it to the Disney dub.
