@kbsez I am a writer, and I always found it problematic to separate my created works from myself or the created works of others from those who created it. It does a disservice to the author by erasing them. Yet, it doesn't erase the values, beliefs, and biases a writer has baked intentionally or not into their creation. There's better works out there that instill the values you describe. The Young Wizards series by Diane Duane. Tamora Pierce's Emelan series. Nnedi Okafor's Akata series too.

@kbsez My hope is that people don't fixate on just the Potter universe but explore the works of other people, especially authors like myself. We write worlds that break down bigotry to build up a more just world. The defense of the Potter universe to trans folks like myself feels very hurtful at this point. Because no matter how I respond, I am faced with people unwilling to expand horizons or acknowledge the biases baked into the text. Their defenses are brick walls to me.
