fyi virtue signaling about never eating fine dining is stupid. I can have a dinner with my wife that completely blows my mind about the possibilities of what food can be for cheaper than a single night at a mid-quality hotel.
I know not everyone is in a place where they can afford a few hundred dollars for a special occasion but I promise that this is not a "bougie" amount of money. some people buy nintendo switches and some people eat sushi that makes you want to cry, yknow.

@clarity@xoxo.zone this is the sentiment my partner and I also apply. We live frugally and sometimes worry about rent or bills, but a special occassion for us is extraordinary food, and always worth it.

@clarity@xoxo.zone 'a few hundred dollars' can feed a family for a week. If I had that kind of money to spend on a meal I would give it to a food insecure person instead. And if afterwards I still had that kind of money to spend on a meal I would find the next food insecure person. Don't tell me this is virtue signalling. Each time I would derive more pleasure from someone not going hungry than I would from any possible meal. I guess that you don't does constitute a class boundary between us.
