@weyoun6 @TheGreatLlama I work in mental health care. I just watched preventative care get tossed out the fucking window this year. Partially due to the orange man's evil bill, yes, but mostly? Because of the despicable smarmy jerk that you're probably going to be howling at me to vote for in 2028. Even the much admired social democracies of Europe have financial garrotes tightening on them, and people are going to have to fight like hell-- much, much harder than they are now-- everywhere to keep any piece of their social safety nets, much less win any real improvements.

@violetmadder @TheGreatLlama that doesn't match my observations. UK has had over 40 years of strident efforts to privatize and they've barely moved the needle. Privatization remains unpopular to the degree that political candidacies advocating complete privatization are non-viable. I don't see this as "hopeful"; people don't give up the benefits they rely on, which is why universal benefits are such a powerful, society reshaping policy.
