@whack (but my gut feeling, just from skimming documentation, is that text-input v3 is what everybody supports best, and all that's needed is a project manager to have a chat with like four people, then arrange for it being called "stable", and then make sure that people like you who'd like to improve on things end up on the chat with these four people every 6 months or so, to avoid fragmentation in the future. But, just a feeling, I have literally no idea of the politics there.)

@funkylab text-input-v3 is for apps -> compositor, though I haven’t explored it much. The broken, incomplete, and fragmented part is input methods -> compositors and there’s a 4th version proposed but I don’t think it’s gone anywhere. Iirc input method v2 is the most supported, but not by KDE/gnome, and it’s also an incomplete protocol for input method engines
