@johl@mastodon.xyz deprecating XSLT is one of the most nonsensical things I've heard this week... but it's only Monday, so...

@johl@mastodon.xyz Poe's Law in full effect, unfortunately. Is the author in favor of keeping XSLT support or trying to make the point by making the site in 90s eye-gouge style that XSLT is a technology holdover from the days the web looked like that and good riddance? (Although someone on HN did point out that that page is actually rendered via XSLT client-side processing of an XML file; if XSLT rendering is disabled it'll change to a "thoughts and prayers" message. Which, I mean... That only raises further Poe's Law questions... 😉 ).

@johl@mastodon.xyz I still don't get that "they want to kill XSL, so they must hate RSS!"-take Yes, some people generated xhtml-views from RSS/Atom (or the other way, feeds from XHTML) by writing XSLT? But that's like only one application and not even a good one? You can just have your software generate both with individual templates? That's probably the way more common way to do that? Why would you even…? It's a weird edge case at best?

@johl@mastodon.xyz it seems that it can be replaced by just JavaScript. What is so bad about this?

@johl@mastodon.xyz One time I worked at a local search engine & we needed to make a 'white label' version for a customer.. it seemed like a lot of effort but we had an XML feed of the results so I suggested using a XSL stylesheet to do it. Was able to get it done in a day or two instead of months probably, and it was faster than the original .net site.

@johl@mastodon.xyz KILL EVERYTHING WITH XML 🔥🔥🔥 I hate it and everyone pushing it, looking at you Microsoft. It must be destroyed at any cost. I don't care. RSS has to stay though because it's the only technology that even the oldest of services support. It's fine honestly.
