What the news is saying: "WE WILL NEVER TRANSLATE LINEAR A BECAUSE ANTHROPIC GROUND THE ROSETTA STONE INTO A FINE POWDER." What is actually happening: "We took one of the 3,987 copies of 'Head First Git' that Borders failed to sell before they went out of business and pulped it, and now Claude is slightly better at merging repositories."

Well, it finally happened. Re-bought a game on Steam that I bought on the Epic store ages ago because Epic is just... Not worth launching. They had a good go of it, but my patience for them to at least get reliability-parity of the UI with Steam ran out.

Hm. "Jellicles ask because Jellicles dare." I wonder what's 'daring' about asking who is going to the Heaviside Layer? ... I mean, it's cat heaven. So you get there by dying... ... and the candidates are a lazy house cat, a couple of strays who would get killed on sight if they got caught raiding people's stuff, a cat on the verge of death due to age, a cat who can't stop eating, the mouser at the local theater with a neurological condition, a cat who gets us...

Reading Steve Yegge's article on how he uses AI to program, and one thing that stands out starkly to me: he's spending about $2800 a month in tokens by buying multiple Claude Max accounts. There's a somewhat un-remarked-upon aspect of the hacking experience, culture, lifestyle, what have you... The tools are cheap. Yes, the computer itself is a base cost to get involved, but we've driven the price of having a computer into the ground by ubiquity. And once you have one, tradition...

Don't get me wrong, Neuromancer on AppleTV sounds... Fine. It's fine. It looks good, it's fine. ... wake me when it's Snow Crash. I want to see someone take Hiro Protagonist, a guy who owns every gas station and turns dogs into cyber security drones, an Amazon delivery girl who harpoons limos and skateboards behind them, and the mafia owning Pizza Hut very, very seriously.

AITA for still being frustrated at HDMI? This is the standard that displaced all the other alternatives and... It sucks. It sucks on toast. The wires are bulky and break all the time, and we decided we'd plug laptops in with it when nudging the wire the wrong way can just completely wreck up the system's ability to establish a video feed.

I find fascinating the process of anthropomorphizing large language model AI from a human behavior standpoint and, having both watched people interact with it and interacting with it myself, I would even say it's kind of the right approach as long as you remember that it is fundamentally not human. What it is, fundamentally, is a very complicated mathematical formula recursively operating on its own output given a seed input and feedback on whether its output is correct as per a human obser...

@jleedev Oh, I agree. But I have a very specific one that should be easy to fix if a human can ever look at it, because the issue is obvious and clear and just requires a data mutation.

Watching old Disney Robin Hood and it's hard to see, even in this setting, how anyone takes Prince John seriously. I mean, just look at him. Obsessed with his image, surrounded by all that gilded stuff, looking down on women, talking mostly to a sycophantic snake... Being so orange...

One of my favorite moments of artistic creation is this scene right here. This is the inception of the character "Jennifer," who would go on to have a whole plot arc of her own. She's the one going off frame on the left. Tawny Newsome (voice actor, Beckett Mariner, the character on the right) was improv'ing the sounds of going through a corridor rapidly and she just belted out "MOVE, JENNIFER!" on the fly. The animation team, given that audio, decided to play and ro...
