My conspiracy theory is that a contributing reason we've lost the war on spam is that platforms (e.g. Google, Apple) have an interest in taking on a role as a your personal bouncer because it makes it more difficult to leave their walled garden
You basically can't self-host an email server these days. Having a phone line is useless if you don't have spam call protection from a major company. This is a bad situation we've found ourselves in

@jenbanim@mastodo.neoliber.al cryptocurrency is (unironically) a solution to this. That is in fact the very application proof of work was originally developed for.
