"Horizontal Stabilizers" by XKCD comic - The cartoonist wonders out loud if airplanes really need those "little wings" in the back. Short answer: Sure, just remove one of the pilot's 3 axes of control and see what happens. But it doesn't even count as a short flight if it runs off the end of the runway, failing to get off the ground. @ikluft@avgeek.social weirdly, you can kinda remove the vertical stabilizer and move the horizontal stabilizers to the front and it works. But pilots are polarized around whether this looks "elegant" or "dumb". 😁
