Most painful Ubuntu upgrade ever, I think. 22.04 -> 24.04, with a somewhat custom full disk encryption.
do-release-upgrade removed things like network-manager and all of the GUI bits before losing network connection and aborting partway through (I was doing this over ssh). Had to recover locally in text mode from /dev/tty2 over wired ethernet (wifi + WPA2 without nm-tui is outside of my experience), and then it failed to boot (no cryptsetup in the initramfs looks like).

Also, choosing to do this today, when most of Ubuntu's online presence is down due to a DDoS attack, was a decision that might not have been the best, in retrospect. (an apt upgrade of thunderbird fails if it can't talk to the snap store)
