@pathfinder @autistics My grandmother lived mostly independently in her flat until she was 94. This was possible thanks to friendly neighbours and to the fact that she had shops and public transport on her doorstep. A friend just celebrated her dad's 90th birthday. He lives independently thanks to the community network in the village. He has an old people's group where the younger ones (60+) who can still drive pick up the older ones to go for a meal or drink.
