Will the idiocy of banning youth from social media have a hidden silver lining in that it boosts other networked communication systems that just barely fall outside the ban - such as personal Web sites and Web logs?
I still won't support it, but if it causes a new incarnation of GeoCities to replace TikTok, then it's not all bad.

The BBS era certainly had its problems and I ran into many of them. High technical barriers to entry; geographic limitations stemming from the telephone system; and "cyberbullying" years before that was a thing, with the surrounding world unable to figure out what to do with it. But at least we had a space of our own that couldn't be controlled by a busybody government.
