@tessarakt That's when you press the middle mouse button and hold it pressed while moving the mouse, to scroll into the direction into which you've moved the mouse. This is essentially how scrolling using a track point (a.k.a. "pointing stick") on Thinkpads works.

    @srslypascal Ah, yes, I've seen that. Cursor changed to something strange, page randomly scrolled by itself, and I didn't know how to stop it.

    @srslypascal @tessarakt Fun fact: That feature has annoyed me for countless years already, and through this Gnome discussion I found out that Firefox has an about:config option to disable it.. why would I ever want to scroll with a middle-click when every mouse has had a wheel for that since the 90s..
