My oldest sister was heading off to college the next Fall... one of the colleges she'd narrowed her choices to was Kent State. Needless to say, the murders there freaked her out.

@chessert I started college that summer, just a few weeks after the killings, albeit not at Kent State. (I had graduated from high school the previous December and didn't want to wait.) It was a frightening, exhilarating time to be young.
