@lw64 Gnome shell is a desktop environment. The compositor is mutter which is written in C.
I guess GNOME developers disagree and say that mutter is a "compositor library" and gnome shell uses it. Eh whatever.
I don't like typescript either. To use JavaScript or TypeScript you have to depend on a lot of software written in a systems language. That's not really my thing. I'd rather write the code in the systems language itself.

@katzenmann you can also use mutter from other languages, elementary OS does that. But yeah I guess if you want system programming languages, you listed all already.
