When it comes to judging your skill against others and getting that external validation, it's like
At a certain level it's not about what's good, it's about what stands out in what context
I never got to talk to those kids, 4th place got zero glory and they're always gonna feel they didn't quite make it, and the fact that they used warm colors instead of cool might have sunk them
I can't think of an objective craftsmanship measure that feels legit at that point

You can only be the best you can be, and if you depend entirely on external reaction, I mean There's the thing about self-doubt when the viewer says "ooh, two cakes", but if the viewer is gonna choose one or the other, there's gonna be arbitrary factors beyond objective quality e: misspoke, i don't think it's more
