the last people who lived here decided to bypass the light switch for the bedroom ceiling fan. their solution was to run an appliance cord through the attic. i don't know why they felt the need to bypass it but it may have had something to do with the "splice" someone made on the original nm cable by electrical taping the wires together

got the light wired back up to the switch and used the junction box in the attic to add an outlet. we left the fan hardwired. the crimp on ferrules and lever connectors were a life saver for dealing with the piddly stranded wire in the fan
