@dan613 so that means N95 masks are charged up capacitors? How long before all that charge leaks away? Can they be recharged by end users? Does getting them wet short them out and dissipate the charge?

@hyc What happens is one side of a fibre is +ve, while the other side is -ve. This is part of the plastic as it is extruded. So the net charge is zero and there is no leakage. You don't actually notice a charge at our scale, but to a micro particle it is very apparent since the fibres are huge in comparison. Regardless, it doesn't really matter which side the particle is near. Like an uncharged wall holding onto a rubbed balloon, it will still attach.
