Most replies seem to think this is perfectly safe if I'm sober & aware of what's going on around me. I'll have taken this route 2 or 3 times by day by this time so that will help too.

@stylus@social.afront.org If you are walking very fast (city pace) and with purpose, you should be fine. As long as walking a mile is within your abilities, it should be okay. If you aren't used to walking that far at a fast pace, call a rideshare, or hail a local cab.

@stylus@social.afront.org I haven't lived in NYC for a bit but I agree it looks safe Bonus tips to consider for NYC interactions: * Walk with purpose * Don't look at strangers too long * If a stranger looks at you too long, you can look angry or blank at them (think "resting bitch face") * If someone on the street is asking you for something, say "sorry, can't help you", keep walking, do not slow down (use judiciously) * If you choose to sit on the train next to the door in touristy parts of Manhattan, keep a close hand on your possessions (wallet, bag, phone), don't use laptop * Don't ask strangers to watch things for you * If you're waiting for the train and a car is completely empty at a normal time of day / not at the end of the line, do not enter that car, walk to the next one over. There's a reason it's empty. * If someone on the train is yelling about you/at you ignore it. don't escalate. * Let people exit the train before you enter it, stand to the side of the door to wait I love NYC! have a great time!
