just saw someone real fullthroatedly argue on here that programmers still have too much leverage because we are "used in decision-making to undermine other orgs" used by whom used by whom, my friend

    @jneen My sneaking suspicion is that there are devs with leverage, but they are not honourable actors. Rather, they hold the keys to the castle, and drag their heels and resist any attempts to commoditise that information or open their necessary role to a rotating cast of others to help reduce bus factor and to build a culture of mutual trust. Rather than facilitators, they are gatekeepers who cling to their position for decades.

    @jneen Land grabs like DevOps, Agile (who needs project managers?? We’re Very Special Boys!) and insisting the entire discipline of Web Design could be replaced with dev tooling and frameworks didn’t win us any fans in other orgs, and rightly so. Still, “AI” is an entirely new level of “complicit in its own destruction” from an industry that now seems staffed entirely by remainders who are eager to help.
