@jneen My sneaking suspicion is that there are devs with leverage, but they are not honourable actors. Rather, they hold the keys to the castle, and drag their heels and resist any attempts to commoditise that information or open their necessary role to a rotating cast of others to help reduce bus factor and to build a culture of mutual trust. Rather than facilitators, they are gatekeepers who cling to their position for decades.

@xan there's part of me that feels like they wouldn't have to do this if "reduce bus factor" wasn't actively being used as "make yourself replaceable" by management, and there was some source of job security that came from, i don't know, a union
