@regehr I think regular completion is not directly detrimental, but when the machine supplies something you don't understand because you didn't make it or study it, then you're losing important 'muscle'. In the end I do not think that use is justified. I won't use #LLMs for the reasons of dependence and sovereignty you mention, nor for the many wider downsides which you don't mention. #LLMs are worse than asbestos and we should not be using them for code, or much else IMO.
