@sofiav it sounds like they didn't go after him so much as use the fact of his transition to radically restrict women's eligibility -- is that what you got too? I need to read up more from other sources to understand the full context, but what I've grasped so far is a more general shift toward policing gender that trans people were just an excuse for.

@iris I'm not sure, because the article doesn't go much into what actually happened in 1936, just that this was the moment that athletes' declared gender began to be questioned by officials when they showed up to compete. But the Nazis were definitely specifically anti-trans as well as anti-feminist. The book probably has a lot more detail
