@arclight Current practice is somewhere around "LEEEEERROY JENKINS!!!!!" I think I'm one of the last admins that cut their teeth doing everything -- servers, storage, networking, backups, phone systems. All the domains are now little fiefdoms, nobody knows how anything works in the other fiefdoms, and I spend a distressing amount of time knowing just enough to eventually get things spanning groups resolved.
Plus Security as a Haley's Comet like thing that flies through the orbits on occasion.

@steevmi1 @arclight I'm a sysadmin at a web hosting company and can confirm the "fiefdoms" thing. Also a lot to what we do is abstracted into tools and wrappers which I think is a change from the way things used to be done in general. FWIW we do have testing servers and clusters to minimize issues when going live

@steevmi1 @arclight And trying to hammer practice into something designed, documented, and tested means not getting finished by end of sprint and getting put on a PIP. Keeping a system running and healthy is not an agile development process that can be broken into discreet week long blocks. It's an ongoing, careful process.
